Elstner's comments come just over a week after Wedel's death. Wedel was a German film and television director who was accused of sexual assault by several women. Elstner's mother, Hannelore Elsner, was one of Wedel's accusers.

In his interview with Bunte, Elstner said that he was "very proud" of his mother for speaking out against Wedel. He also said that he hopes that his mother's story will help other victims of sexual assault to come forward.
