Horror injury as Hungary footballer stretchered off gushing blood after sickening collision with Scotland goalkeeper

Barnabas Varga left hospital after sickening clash left him with facial fractures

The 29-year-old was involved in a sickening clash of heads with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn during Hungary's 3-1 Nations League defeat in Budapest on Saturday night.

Varga was left with blood pouring from his face and was stretchered off after lengthy treatment on the pitch as medics desperately tried to stop the bleeding.

The Hungarian FA confirmed after the match that Varga had suffered facial fractures and had been taken to hospital for further treatment.

The severity of the injuries is not yet known, but it is a major blow to Hungary, who are preparing for their Euro 2024 campaign.

Varga has been a key player for Hungary in recent years, scoring 12 goals in 35 appearances.

He was expected to be a key player for Hungary at the Euros, but his injury could now rule him out of the tournament.

The incident happened in the 20th minute of the match when Varga went up for a header with Gunn.

The two players collided head-on and Varga was left crumpled on the ground.

Medics rushed onto the pitch and gave Varga oxygen before he was stretchered off.

The match was stopped for around 10 minutes while Varga received treatment.

Scotland went on to win the match 3-1, but the victory was overshadowed by Varga's injury.
